I grew up in Wayne, Michigan, and graduated from Asbury College (BA) and Asbury Theological Seminary (MDiv) in Kentucky. I have been a pastor since 1984 and served churches in Blissfield, Owosso, West Branch, and now Midland. Outside of the local church I provide leadership through district and conference committees and boards, as well as enjoy a commitment to community activities.
I drive a Ford, bleed maize and blue, dislike winter, and have a glimmer of hope every fall that the Lions will make it to the Super Bowl.
I love being a pastor and continue to be glad and amazed that God has called me to serve in such a way.
I grew up in Standish, Michigan, where my father is a pastor. I am an avid sports fan and outdoorsman. I graduated from Asbury College in 2007 with a BA in theology and biblical studies and have been involved in teaching Sunday school, leading small discipleship groups, leading contemporary worship, leadership training, and preaching. I have a keen interest in Christianity in the post-modern world and a passion to reach youth with one thing: Jesus.
I came to Midland in 1991 as a social worker for a local agency. This “temporary” stop has lasted these many years! My husband Craig and I have no children, but have been blessed with nieces and a nephew, as well as our “children” here at Aldersgate. I feel blessed to work with some of our most enthusiastic church attendees each week. My journey at Aldersgate has been filled with many God moments, and I look forward to whatever else the Lord has planned.
My husband, Charlie, and I have been married for 54 years. I was a local pastor at Thorburn UMC for two years and have been a member of Aldersgate UMC since January 2003. I’ve been volunteering as Minister of Visitation at Aldersgate since 2009. I enjoy visiting shut-ins and hospital patients and feel it a privilege to offer communion to people not able to attend church.
I came to Midland from Sarnia, Ontario, in 1994 and became a member of Aldersgate in October 1995. After volunteering in the Aldersgate Church office for four years, I decided I liked it well enough to make a career of it. My first position was at Gordonville UMC with Rev. Janet Larner. Later, in 2002, I took a full-time position here at Aldersgate. It is my pleasure to serve God’s people through careful attention to the business side of His Church.
I was born in Detroit and went to high school in East Tawas. I took piano lessons for 12 years and then went on to teach myself organ. I moved to Midland in 1953 and am a charter member of Aldersgate. I was substitute organist for several years along with directing the choir and being involved in UMYF. After the organist retired, I held that position for 12 years, then was retired for 7 years before being asked back again. I've been organist since then for 14 years and I love what I do!
My family is originally from Gladwin, but we moved to Midland where I started fifth grade at State Street Elementary. I was confirmed as a member of Aldersgate UMC in the late 1960s. During my “traveling” years I attended school and worked in mid-Michigan, Texas, Oklahoma, and Illinois. I am currently working as a computer workstation specialist for the Midland Public Schools. My wife MaryAnn and I have made our home in Midland for the past nineteen years. We are blessed with three children, Brandy, Samantha, and son Andrew.
In all my years, music has been a way that God has expressed Himself to me, and vice versa. It has been thread that has kept me going through the hard times and allowed me to praise God for Christ's work in us. I meet a bit of the Divine when I hear music and participate in it. I love to share that joy and teach as I am able, so that all of us have the opportunity to experience God's love through music. It is my prayer that we continue to learn and grow in many aspects of music and worship.
I was born and raised in Detroit and have lived in Midland for the past 30 years. I hold a B.A. (general and choral music, English, Latin) from Olivet College, and a Masters degree in music education from Central Michigan University. I retired from teaching after 32 years, having taught elementary general music, junior and senior high school choral music, and senior high Latin and English. Directing children’s vocal choirs, the adult chancel choir, and teen and adult handbell choirs at Aldersgate over the past 20-plus years has offered me a way to thoroughly express and receive the joy of worship and music.
I grew up in Merrill on a farm, moved to Houston, then Chicago, and finally landed in Midland in 1989. I am married to Fred and have two girls, Emmalee and Kimberlee, and a dog named Buddy. I came to work at Aldersgate when my oldest daughter, Emmalee, started school in 1996. I have had the pleasure of working with many different church staff members. I do a wide variety of jobs around the church inside and out—I’m a Jackie of all trades!
